DRagan Tutors was founded as a result of my desire to teach struggling readers the skills they need to improve academic performance, enhance reading enjoyment, and increase self-confidence. As a former special education teacher, I am passionate about helping each student achieve his or her potential by working in close partnership with parents, guardians, teachers, and other professionals. I believe strongly in recognizing and appreciating each child’s unique strengths in order to support them on their path to success.
You're Not Alone
Nearly one in five children has a language-based learning disability that may manifest in school as difficulty with reading and spelling. Fortunately, as a result of scientific progress, we now know how to help people of all ages to become good readers.
Though intelligent and creative, children with learning difficulties such as dyslexia often struggle to read and spell. Without proper instruction, these children typically experience a dramatic decline in academic performance and an increase in frustration around third or fourth grade when instruction shifts from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.”
The best window of opportunity to help these children is during the early years when a young student can catch up before experiencing failure. However, it’s never too late to learn to read!
Help is Available
Because children with moderate to severe reading disabilities learn differently, they need to be taught using special methods. Programs that have a positive impact for these students use a common approach based on the research of Dr. Samuel Orton and teaching methods of Anna Gillingham.
DRagan Tutors uses the Orton-Gillingham-based Barton Reading and Spelling System®. The latest research and teacher and parent testimonials confirm that this structured, sequential, multisensory technique is highly effective for students with reading disabilities.
